AP Executive Staffing is hiring a Director of Accounting for our customer, a mission-driven, multi-entity non-profit organization. This is a unique opportunity to apply strategic financial acumen in a complex nonprofit environment, helping to steward resources, drive sustainability, and maximize impact. Reporting to the CFO, this role is suited for an experienced financial leader who can ensure fiscal accountability, and inspire their team to drive success across the organization.

You will lead the accounting, payroll, accounts payable, internal and external financial reporting and analysis of information for key stakeholders including management, board of directors, banks, and regulators. You will use BI to gather and trend for new and existing programs, budgets, and key metrics while partnering with your team in the oversight of these activities and compliance with GAAP and non-profit regulations. You will support effective program implementation, and manage internal and external audits. You will work closely with the CFO, Program and Department leaders to explore how the finance function can support program operations.

Salary range: $100-$130K

Responsibilities:

  • Direct leadership to the Accounts Payable, Accounting, and Payroll teams to develop a cohesive team, manage work distribution, train, develop and evaluate performance
  • Direct all accounts, ledgers, reporting systems, and financial reports ensuring best practices and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Direct reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical review of agency financial information
  • Work closely with staff and Funding Agencies to ensure timely and accurate financial information
  • Evaluate, assess and enhance financial performance and workflows
  • Oversight of monthly and annual close process, asset management, payroll, and ensure all accounting data is properly recorded and reconciled
  • Educate staff of budgets, variance analysis, payroll information, allocations, and cost report data
  • Responsible for best practices of general ledger systems, maximizing systems to drive efficiency
  • Develop and maintain a strategic plan for the controlled growth, expansion, and/or development of programs and sites
  • Develop & monitor cash flow to meet operating needs
  • Work with the CFO to develop, analyze, interpret, recommend and execute financial or process modifications that support the Agency’s strategic plans
  • Coordinate agency audit activities, ensuring data completion for audited financial statements and preparation of Form 990, completion of audit responses, and prep and review of cost reports

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 6+ years’ of management experience OR a Master’s degree in Accounting with 2+ years’ experience in a finance/operations leadership role
  • Experience managing revenue/billing teams, fostering a collaborative and results-orientated environment
  • Strong knowledge of multi-funded, non-profit organizational structure, laws and governing regulations such as Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR), Reimbursable Cost Manual, or other not-for-profit program cost reports
  • Strong problem solving, data mining and analyze large amounts of information
  • Deep understanding of financial statements, forecasting, budgeting, and data analysis
  • Effective communication & collaboration with key stakeholders regarding strategy and timelines
  • Able to assist with IT/IS issues to develop solutions and implement enhancements
  • Ability to complete multiple priorities and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of theory and practices of accounting and auditing
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft 365, Accounting Software Systems, and HRIS technology
  • Ability to work effectively with outside auditors and governmental agencies
