AP Professionals has partnered with a medical device manufacturer seeking a Senior Molding Automation Engineer to join their Rochester, NY team. The Sr. Molding Automation Engineer will manage the transfer, implementation, and continuous improvement of precision injection molding and automation processes for manufacturing.   • Define, prioritize, and implement improvement projects aligned with Key Performance Indicators, OEE improvement, and long-term Business Unit objectives
  • Lead quality, cost, and capacity improvement projects for injection molding and associated process automation
  • Apply scientific molding principles and technical problem solving to implement robust solutions that are verified and validated for medical device manufacturing
  • Support and implement capacity expansion projects with site and regional engineering teams from requirements development, technical reviews, FAT and IQ/OQ/PQ validation, to project launch
  • As the site SME, provide technical leadership and mentorship to technicians, operators, and other personnel for training, development, and trouble shooting
  • Provide maintenance with next level support for critical production issues
  • Work closely with tool room, maintenance, and suppliers to assure all equipment, molds, and tooling are monitored and maintained appropriately
  • Recommend and drive procedural and technical improvements based on production requirements
  • Work closely with downstream process owners/customers to resolve issues where point of cause is not yet known
  • Investigate major process or equipment failures to determine root cause, recommend, and implement corrective actions
  • Develop standard work for critical processes including change-overs, process monitoring, and preventative maintenance
  • Develop and maintain process documentation in adherence to the Quality Management System and all regulatory requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in plastics, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering or a related discipline required
  • Master Molder Certification preferred


  • 7+ years’ manufacturing experience with injection molding and precision automation required
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry required, preferably medical device manufacturing
  • Scientific Injection Molding, Netstal and Engel injection molding machines, mold/tooling design and maintenance experience required
  • Experience with cavity process monitoring and control preferred
  • Experience with automation technologies, including precision part handling, assembly, robotics, precision fluid metering, and oven curing required
  • Experience with PLCs (Allen Bradly) and Robots (Staubli) required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Demonstrated success in structured problem solving (DMAIC, Shainin, RCCM, etc.) required
  • Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SMED, Error Proofing required
  • Knowledge in process design and development, PFD/PFMEA, error proofing, statistical process control and monitoring and metrology required
  • Understanding of manufacturing metrics as they align to Process Improvement initiatives required
  • Ability to define project objectives, create and execute project plans required
  • Ability to communicate written and verbally with a broad audience from top management to technical teams to non-technical support staff required
  • Advanced excel and data analysis capability required
  • Ability to travel up to 15% required
