AP Professionals has partnered with a large industrial equipment manufacturer in the Western, NY area on a full-time, direct hire need. The Company, servicing energy markets, is seeking a Project Manager for products custom-engineered to meet each unique customer’s complex technical challenges.

Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent is key in developing potential and existing customer relationships. The Project Manager will be responsible for cross-functional development of engineering designs, estimate preparation, and the ultimate management of the large scale, timely and cost effective project completion. Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is a plus. Occasional domestic and international travel is required. This position does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities of the Engineering Project Manager

  • Liaise between engineering and customers to prepare estimates and quotations for orders
  • Monitor and evaluate performance from start to finish, providing explanations for nonconformities in actual to projected performance
  • Review and manage critical sales order documents. Minimize liabilities through diligent review of contract documentation, engineering drawings, and other customer communications
  • Ensure that all project lead times are met and deliverables are completed to meet customer schedules. Proactively identify production obstacles
  • Negotiate positive terms with customers and suppliers consistent with Company requirements
  • Within established timelines, ensure technical drawings are complete and submitted to customers, and approved drawings are released to production. Maintain contact to advise on milestones
  • Partner with Operations to resolve engineering project issues; escalate to management when necessary
  • Collaborate with accounting and finance to ensure billing is completed on time and assist with invoice payment needs as necessary
  • Develop internal and external relationship to drive increased future sales

Qualifications of the Engineering Project Manager

  • Bachelor of science degree in engineering, chemistry, or a related field required
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in long-lead time project management with high cost and quality specification compliance required
  • Machining, fabrication, and heavy assembly manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics preferred
  • ASME code knowledge preferred
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and critical milestone schedules required
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate technical data to non-technical employees required
