Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a medical device manufacturer seeking an Operational Excellence Manager to join their Rochester, NY team. The Operational Excellence Manager will develop and implement strategy aligned with Company objectives, and manage/execute select capital projects. This position holds supervisory responsibility for a team of engineers, reports to the Director of Engineering, and offers competitive benefits and salary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the site’s Operational Excellence strategy working with senior leadership and functional leaders
  • Develop and improve the long-term strategy and implementation roadmap as part of the site’s annual planning process
  • Plan and deliver the Operational Excellence training program utilizing internal and external resources in concert with regional Operational Excellence standards and guidelines
  • Work with Business Unit leaders and Functional Managers to increase employee engagement, prioritize opportunities supporting site objectives, align resources and commission improvement project teams
  • Implement Operational Excellence initiatives in the plant including lean principles, kaizen workshops, 5S and Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving
  • Train, coach, facilitate, and/or lead project teams to effectively apply Lean principles and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Assess current site capabilities and needs to determine problems solving development and training needs
  • Drive training, coaching, and standardization of the problem-solving and project management processes
  • Prioritize and Lead or Coach Six Sigma projects aligned with site objectives
  • Develop standard work with visual management for regular project reviews and communication
  • Train and Coach other project leaders in the site
  • Collaborate with the regional Project Management Office for standardization and best practices
  • Manage and implement key improvement or capital projects as needed
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects following a standard Project Management Process
  • Develop, engage, and manage the engineering team through clear objectives, individual development plans, coaching and annual reviews

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific field required
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt required; Master Black Belt preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years’ relevant manufacturing environment experience required
  • 5+ years’ experience managing technical projects and/or managing technical staff and engineers required
  • 7+ years’ experience driving continuous improvement through Lean and Six Sigma tools, and 3+ years’ as a site Lean/Six Sigma Lead required
  • Leadership experience implementing one or more major, successful transformation utilizing Lean and Six Sigma tools required, including 5S, VSM, Visual Workplace, Standardized Work, SMED, Single Piece Flow and Pull, TPM, and Kaizen
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry highly preferred
  • Technical experience in Assembly/Test Automation, Injection Molding, Tooling and/or Facility Infrastructure preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop organizational capabilities in Operational Excellence
  • Demonstrated successes in the application of Lean Principles in the manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated capability in problem solving and variation reduction through Six Sigma DMAIC and other methods such as Shainin Red-X, 8D, A3, Kepner Tregoe, etc.
  • Project Management skills in planning, risk management, and execution and implementation experience in the manufacturing environment
  • Strong leadership qualities with proven ability to lead and influence without direct authority
  • Enjoys working with all levels of the organization from the shop floor to top leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to independently manage multiple complex projects while meeting project requirements
  • Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations, and provide feedback and performance evaluation to all levels of personnel
  • Knowledge and experience with Current Good Manufacturing Principles (CGMP), ISO 13485, Lean Manufacturing and strong problem solving skills
