Description

AP Professionals has partnered with an excellent food manufacturer in the Greater Rochester, NY area seeking an Director of Engineering to join their local team. The Engineering Director will direct and coordinate all engineering activities within the manufacturing facility. They will provide general direction to maintenance leadership to ensure effective collaboration and maximize production up-time. The Engineering Director will ensure all engineering and maintenance projects, initiatives, and processes conform with established policies and objectives. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with senior management, production, quality, information technology, R&D, sales, marketing, and maintenance groups to determine project specifications and scope
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities
  • Collaborate with internal SME’s to analyze equipment, technology, resource needs, and market demand, to assess the feasibility of projects and develop project plans as appropriate
  • Proactively plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment, ensuring collaboration and effective communication with all involved parties
  • Direct, review, and approve production designs and recommend appropriate equipment changes to effectively meet the business objectives
  • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of equipment and maintenance service contracts with a focus on cost effective continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and maintenance work performed by department and by all vendors/contractors
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing policies and corporate standards, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to internal stakeholders and/or executive leadership as appropriate
  • Oversee and direct negotiations with external resources to prepare project specifications and ensure delivery of desired results within the approved budget, scope and time frame
  • Provide guidance, direction and support to Operations leadership with respect to improved equipment operation, equipment care standards and/or design enhancements/changes to provide improvements to production output or equipment reliability

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required

Experience

  • 10+ years’ manufacturing/plant experience required
  • 5+ years’ supervisory/management experience required
  • Maintenance management experience in a food manufacturing plant required
  • Water, steam, refrigeration and utilities management experience required
  • Technical and supervisory experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentations, and automation preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Ability to modify the layout of an equipment area to enhance its efficiency or accommodate new equipment required
  • Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) required
  • Solid working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and computer automation required
  • Outstanding leadership skills required. Must consistently exhibit professionalism and appropriate business acumen as a role model for others
  • Proven ability to successfully lead projects within scope to an on-time and on-budget conclusion
  • Ability to effectively interact with and build credibility and confidence with Plant management, executive leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point), and CAD/CAM, or related applications
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work effectively with and through others
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and negotiate effectively with internal and external resources (i.e. contractors and vendors)
