SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Under moderate supervision, and in accordance with the Firm’s policies and procedures, the Assistant Controller is responsible for various financial reports and more detailed activities associated with maintaining the books of the Firm.  The Assistant Controller works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions described below are representative of the job duties that employees in this position must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the Firm.  Regular and predictable attendance is one of the essential functions.

  1. Supervision of A/P, A/R and Accounting Staff.
  2. Assist in month end and year end closing processes.
  3. Prepare monthly financial reports, review and analyze monthly financial statements.
  4. Weekly payroll journal entries.
  5. Pension testing, audits, and filing of the annual 5500.
  6. Prepare annual Health & Welfare 5500.
  1. Weekly and quarterly funding of the 401K plan.
  1. Assist the Controller in the preparation, monitoring and carrying out of the annual operating budget.
  2. Perform monthly budgetary variance analysis, and schedule quarterly reviews with various operating departments to discuss the results.
  3. Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
  4. Prepare general ledger entries as necessary.
  5. Check signing.
  6. Collections as necessary.
  7. Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
  8. Demonstrate teamwork, working cooperatively with members of the Accounting Department to provide assistance as needed.
  9. Demonstrate Professionalism, working cooperatively with others in all the various departments of the Firm, assuming responsibilities as may be necessary to ensure that the best possible support is provided to the Firm’s clients. Performs the job in a manner that contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the Accounting Department and the Firm. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to all of the Firm’s policies and procedures.
  10.  Perform other related accounting duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities required for this position.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Experience: At least three to five years of prior business accounting experience required, prior supervisory experience preferred. Legal background a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced skills in Excel .
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Aderant software helpful.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral; solid command of the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively, cooperatively and proactively within a team environment.  Ability to establish effective working relationships throughout operational groups.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment; ability to coordinate multiple tasks concurrently and to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, follow instructions without excess supervision and maintain a professional manner under pressure.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality.

  • More than 40 hours per week may be required to perform the essential duties of the position.

PAY:

  • $125K-$135K
