Downtown location in medical setting

Temporary Assignment $25-32/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors various activities to ensure that all professional services performed are captured and billed accurately and timel
  • Develops, implements and reviews charge verification process and controls; Collaborates with Health Information Management Coding Manager to ensure accurate documentation and updating of current procedural terminology (CPT) and diagnosis codes
  • Ensures accurate and timely submission of claims
  • Develops financial reporting systems to monitor accounts receivable, aging categories and delays in payments
  • Collaborates with professional billing company to implement aggressive follow-up of accounts receivable
  • Reviews medical necessity issues to verify acceptable diagnosis codes and prevent claim denials;
  • Develops and implements a denial tracking reporting system; Participates on the Denial Prevention Committee
  • Develops audits to ensure proper billing processes are in place and to ensure compliance with government and regulatory agency billing requirements and standards
  • Ensures universal bills are updated
  • Ensures proper and timely credentialing for new physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants
  • Participates in the implementation of a Centralized Scheduling System; Serves as resource person and liaison to expedite flow of patient information
  • Participates in program development and department performance improvement activities

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations/policies as they relate to professional services billing; thorough knowledge of hospital and physician billing and reimbursement; good knowledge of payer requirements relative to coding, charging and billing; good knowledge of healthcare coding and medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of professional billing company operations; ability to plan, implement and evaluate systems and procedures; ability to manage multiple priorities; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to supervise others; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of staff including outside vendors
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft applications; excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; initiative; tact; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of medical or hospital professional charging and billing functions, 1 of which included supervisory or administrative experience; or
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree and 7 years of medical or hospital professional charging and billing functions, 1 of which included supervisory or administrative experience.
